Peacock Alley Picks

Peacock Alley is a great source for fine linens.  Their sheets are top quality and all of the products I have ever purchased have held up well.  The price point is high but in linens, quality is very important.  You can't buy inexpensive super soft, well-made sheets anymore.  The good news is they are having a sale.  Use code VIP20 for 20 percent off. Here are some of my picks.

I love these sheets in blue:

It's difficult to find good cotton blankets anymore that don't snag. These waffle weave ones will do the trick and it comes in gray or white.

I love this bathrobe!  It comes in several colors.  The aqua and blue are my favorites.
Good bathmats are also hard to find and this one is likely very good quality. It comes in several colors too:

I also love this pique robe.

Horse Show Wear

Sometimes I get asked what to wear to go to a horse show?  I'm not talking about to compete or ride but when you go as a spectator.  The same clothing choices will be good for other types of horse-related events - a three-day event, a dressage show, a pony club rally or even a polo match.

Utilitarian comes to mind immediately when I think about dressing for a show.  In summer it can be brutally hot with no shade. In winter you'll get wind, rain, snow, ice and mud.  Even if a show is indoors you still have to get to the indoor arena.

Wear very comfortable shoes.  You'll likely walk a lot unless you have your own golf cart. When I go to Ocala I probably walk 5 miles a day easily.  Hard soled shoes, no sandals, no open-toe anything.  Wear shoes that you can walk in on uneven ground (the ruts made from the tractors can be huge).  Paddock boots are great horse show shoes when wearing jeans.  If  you are wearing shorts you can wear Nike athletic shoes or any brand that allows you to walk a lot.

These shoes from Merrill also will work great for shows.
Bring a sun hat, a baseball cap or a visor.  You will most definitely need a hat.  The sun can be brutal and there is often little to no shade at these shows.

Bring suntan lotion.

If it is really hot you may want to wear shorts.  When I want to be a little dressed I wear a Lilly skirt or skort.  This Lilly Skort is perfect for horse shows with built in sun protection.

When I am out in the sun a lot I often wear sun shirts.  They are comfortable, keep you cool and will protect you from the harmful sun.

Always bring a raincoat.  I never go to a show without one even if the forecast is for sunny weather. I also have a pair of rain pants that I keep in my tack trunk.  When you have be outside in a total downpour these come in handy.

Bring a tote bag to carry water.  Food at shows can be expensive. You'll also want to carry your suntan lotion.  And because horse shows can be long and boring, bring a good book or better yet a needlepoint project.

Rebecca Ray's Breeders Cup Collection

I love these cut bags, totes and pillows from Rebecca Ray for the Breeders Cup which will be held in early November at Churchill Downs.  What a great gift for a horse racing friend. You can see the collection here.

Brush Up

Anything that we can recycle is a good thing, right?  Of course, but what happens when it turns into a work of art?  These tired old brushes were headed for the waste bin but look at them now.....

Summer Beauty Products

In summer I wear minimal make-up and my skin care regimen is simple and quick. I try new products every now and then but find myself reverting back to the old classics time and time again.

Erno Laszlo
I just ordered a new bottle of this cleansing oil that is used with the Sea Mud Soap.  It's just the best way to clean and refresh your skin.  Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and others were big fans of this line. Can they all be wrong? It's an oldie but a goodie.

Estee Lauder
I am loving this eye cream for night time only.  It's a little bit greasy but for night I am fine with that.I have to use cream in the morning and night for my eyes.

I also like this one for day wear.
I discovered these hair and body products a few years ago and love them!  The hair products are great, especially for summer.

This is a great spray that gives your hair that beach look without going to the beach.

Kora Organics
With the intense heat and humidity of East Coast summers, a good face spritz is a must have in summer.  I love this brand and the lavender just adds a special touch.

You can also try Citrus:

It is a beautiful summer day here in Virginia.  Enjoy!

Beautiful Waste Baskets

A decorative waste basket adds a special touch to a room.  I remember seeing a photo in one of Charlotte Moss' books of the most beautiful waste baskets I had ever seen and after that, I started paying attention to them.  Decorators use them frequently and it's hard to find good ones so I am always on the look out for them.  Here are a few that I've seen lately. Add a few of these to your den, bedroom, guest room, powder room.  Remember, the details do matter!
