Jackie Kennedy's Wexford Goes on the Market

If you're searching for an historic property in Virginia, you might want to consider this.  The Kennedy estate near Middleburg, as in Jackie, is up for sale for a mere $11 million.  The estate is named Wexford is lies just west of the village of Middleburg, VA, about an hour west of Washington, D.C.  The area is exclusive but at $11 million, you are paying top dollar for the historical value of the property, even though JFK is reported to have stayed in the house only once. And the place could use a little updating.

According to the real estate listing:

"This one story 5050 square foot home, rich with character, features original parquet floors, his and her dressing rooms, multiple fireplaces, a formal dining, built-in cabinets and bookcases, nine foot ceilings and alternate power generators.  The surroundings include natural stone landscaping, flagstone pool deck with an outdoor cooking area, vine covered trellises, stone patio and a tennis court. The basement space under the house conceals equipment and utilities. This equestrian property has stables for horses that include water, electrical, storage for hay and two separate living areas.  There is also a separate three car garage with bath and second floor studio/office exists as well.  The property still contains an underground bunker and dependencies used by Secret Service personnel.

The house now sits on 165 acres.  When the Kennedy's owned it the house sat on 40 or so acres.  Jackie sold the property in 1964 for $225,000.

A Trophy Life

Everyone loves a winner, right?  I mean a real winner, the winning that comes from hard work and dedication, the kind of recognition that goes only to one person or a team, not to everyone.  This is the old fashioned kind of winning, the kind that vintage style picks up on.  The kind I like.  And it looks good in your home too!

Ralph Lauren captures this very well but you can too. Vintage trophies are out there on Ebay, in thrift shops, on Etsy and 1stDibbs.

You can incorporate this same "equestrian style" very easily....

You don't have to own a racing stable but you can capture that same aura if you will....

 (all photos are from Pinterest)

And it's even better if some of the trophies are your very own.  Here's to a winning day, wherever you might be!

From Soup to Nuts

It's soup time here in the country, with cold days and blustery nights.  What better time to pull out the soup tureens and nut bowls.  We love to entertain although I am way below my quota this year.  As soon as I am able, I'm pulling out the recipes, dusting off the old silver and making soup as an appetizer with some warm spiced pecans on the side.

Loving this adorable little bowl from Orvis I believe:

 This one is equally cute!
I love old soup tureens! These are on 1stdibbs.com:

Newer ones are also wonderful, especially ones from Herend!  Rothchild Birds is my favorite; the one that sits in my dining room, well, let's just say we don't use it.  But it looks great.

Here is an old Spode tureen (1stDibbs):

Another old one from Pinterest:

This is probably one of my favorites, from Wedgewood, love the fox and hounds!

This one is not old but loving the horses, of course!

Injury Time Out, Part Two

I am going to be offline for a bit after today; my nasty July 4th injury has not healed so I am off to the surgeon again.  Hoping that all can be repaired this time around and I can return to a normal life again.  Typing has been very difficult, hence shorter (and less) posts.  Hope to be back in a week or two. So stay tuned please!  Au revoir.

The Horses Are Coming! To Washington, DC

Today is the first day of the Washington International Horse Show in downtown D.C.  What a sight it is to see them arriving on F Street in the middle of our nation's capital.  What fun!

Fun Finds - Vintage Equestrian?

Here are some fun vintage finds, Etsy and Ebay, two of my favorite sources.....

These are in Australia but she'll ship them to the US.  The brown horses are still available as is one of the grays.

I am still enamored by the Lawn Jockey and love the old ones. This one is on Ebay now....

You can't see this very well but this is on Etsy, a lawn jockey tablecloth from the 1950's:

Another lawn jockey find, a silk scarf from "21" in New York, circa the 1980's?

Happy Hunting!

Favorite Fall Fashions

Now that it finally got chilly here in the East, it's time to start pulling out some of those new clothes.  We had a very heavy frost last night and it was really cold this morning.....

I love these silk pants and bought them during a recent J Crew sale.  They are a deeper color than in the photo.  Can't wait to wear them with a black turtleneck and leopard flats.

As usual, I find coats to love.  This one is also from J Crew but I have an old one from Talbots.
Another pair of capris from J Crew. These sold out in my size but what a great pant for holiday or fall cocktails.

Still thinking about this fur vest from Banana.....

What about this cute little number from Kate Spade?

And I love this jacket from Banana Republic.

Another coat from J Crew:

And this J Crew military jacket comes in two colors:

I bought the red/navy version of these from J Crew and wore them this past weekend to a party. They are so cute in person!

What are you looking at this fall to add to your already bulging closet?
