I learned to despise politics when I moved to Washington, DC and my distaste hasn't wavered since then. It was fun watching the election returns last night (the only part I enjoy) but I am so glad it's all over. The US media distorts so much, we just don't know what to believe.
But it turns out Michelle Obama's debate ensemble cost twice as much.
The US Weekly piece went on to report this, but somehow the Obama outfit price tag was not mentioned in the headline. The headline read: "Ann Romney Wears $1,690 Oscar de la Renta Dress to Presidential Debate"
The announcement might have fit well with President Obama's references during that debate to the Romney family's enormous wealth. The president joked at one point that he doesn't look at his own pension, because it's not as big as Romney's.
But both families, it turns out, can afford very nice clothes.
While Ann Romney was sporting a "short-sleeved crimped cotton silk dress by Oscar de la Renta," that is not yet in stores, as US Weekly reported, the first lady was wearing a "hot pink" outfit of her own -- that together cost $3,290.
"Obama, 48, styled a shift dress and cropped jacket from Michael Kors' 2013 resort collection. The dress retails for $1,795 and the jacket is $1,495," the magazine reported.
The pink dresses were in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Next time around I am just going to quit reading anything about either candidate, regardless of who is running and make my own decisions in a vacuum. "Just the facts" please. Goodnight everyone!

Best post I've read in 4 years! Thank you for this dose of reality!
ReplyDeleteWow. Somehow and sadly, not a surprise. No surprise whose side the media is on. Ann Romney is a class act all the way, I was in awe of her grace and elegance every step of the way (as I was her husbands) They embody all that America is. I am sad to see them go. Interesting post.
ReplyDeleteWell said. Our nation has more to think about than how much someone's dress cost. Either lady.
ReplyDeleteBut do they actually purchase the clothes? I've always wondered. I know an actor or an actress might get free clothing so that the designer can be seen on that person. I sort of assumed it was the same with political wives, but maybe I'm wrong - maybe they can't accept those kinds of gifts because it's politics.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the first ladies are allowed to be "given" clothes. If I recall, with Nancy Reagan there was a big stink about her getting free or greatly discounted clothes so I would be surprised if Michelle Obama is not paying for her clothes. Gotta love the media in this country. They slant it every which way to suit their own agendas.
