Workout - Just Do It

It's that time of year when many people make resolutions to get in shape, shed a few pounds, eat better, drink less - you know the drill.  Being fit has been a part of my lifestyle forever and I can't imagine a life without regular exercise.   Everyone has their own routine, likes and dislikes, regarding choice of exercise, time of day, clothing, etc. Here are mine......

1) Running - Exercise of Choice
I have been running since I was 13 years old.  A few years here and there were spent swimming due to injury but I try my best to run when I can.  Back issues have kept my running a bit limited but I've hit the road three days this week already.  Nothing I do other than swimming keeps me fit and in shape like running. 30-40 minutes, on back roads near my house, with my iPod, gives me a lift like nothing else.  Treadmills are second best, when weather or darkness won't allow an outside run.  And if everything else fails, I walk but if you are a runner, a walk doesn't really cut it.  If you can't run, bike, swim, take hour-long walks.  But if you don't get out there and move every day, you'll suffer the consequences eventually.

2) Clothing - Nike
There are so many choices now for workout clothes - J Crew, Tory Burch, Athleta, and so many others but I love Nike clothing for working out, bar none.  They fit well, it's not too expensive, the clothing lasts.  The only shoes I run in are Nike.

3) Time of Day to Exercise - At the End of the Day
I'm not a morning person so I like exercising at the end of the day before dinner but after the work is done.  If my work routine won't allow it, I manage a lunch time run and when traveling I can sometimes do an early morning if that's the only time I can fit it in.

4) After Exercise - A Hot Bath
A nice hot bath with salts and jets makes the muscles feel better after a good workout.  Nothing else suffices. It's something I look forward to after a good workout.

5) Role Models
Don't laugh, but I am in awe of Pippa Middleton's athleticism.  That woman is incredible with her road racing, ski racing, mountain climbing. She is in incredible shape and can seem to conquer anything she puts her mind on.  And then there's Serena Williams.  She is the most incredible female athlete ever.

Make fitness a part of your lifestyle.  Here in the country, being outdoors, moving around, is part of a daily routine. It makes for a great way of living.

  2. Great post!! Asides from all the exercise I get at work with the racehorses, I like to finish the day with a good run. Its hard to find comfy clothing for running where I live so I may have to look around for some Nike :)
