More About the Lawn Jockey

My previous posts on the lawn jockey have been very popular so it piqued my interest to learn more.  Regretfully, very little information exists, at least that I have been able to find.  But certainly at some point, the lawn jockey was very much a part of American popular culture, most likely in the 1940's, 50's and 60's and maybe into the 70's.  While I am not condoning the fact that these figures are not politically correct in today's world it would be interesting to learn how the Jocko and the Cavalier became so popular. This is my own Jocko:

For example, look at some of these items I have found.  You'd never think that there would lawn jockey fabric, tablecloths, blazer button or a lamp....

Look closely and you can see the Lawn Jockey on this scarf:

I think this photo is from Macy's in the 1940's.  See how the Lawn Jockey sits at both sides of this great hallway.  Wouldn't see that today, would you?

If you Google "Lawn Jockey" and "advertisement" you'll find many old advertisements that used the Lawn Jockey as part of the ad. There are ads for cars, clothes, race tracks and other things that fully incorporate what I'll call this piece of Americana. Fascinating isn't it?
