Lilly Lust

Spring is almost here and the clothes are starting to come out.  With spring clothes, comes Lilly, one of my all time favorites.  My mother dressed us in Lilly, I wore Lilly to my prom in high school.   Some things never get tired or go out of style.

The company's start goes all the way back to 1959 when founder, Lilly Pulitzer, manned a juice stand in Palm Beach to help sell her husband's oranges. It was a messy job and as you'd expect, she wanted to look stylish.  So she designed a colorful shift that was comfortable but also hid the juice stains inherent in her new job.  The bright colorful cotton dresses got the attention of former schoolmate, Jackie Kennedy, and well, the rest is history.

From the 1960's to the 1980's the clothes were very popular but running a company is a lot of work and by 1984 Lilly decided to call it quits and she closed down the entire operation.  But in 1993, thank goodness, the rights to the brand were purchased by Sugartown Worldwide, Inc. although Lilly continues to serve the company as a consultant.

The company owns 75 Lilly Pulitzer Signature Stores and they sell to many others.  In 2010, Sugartown Worldwide was purchased by Oxford Industries. It's great to see the company doing so well and in addition to clothing and accessories the company now makes a great furniture line.

I love this bathroom in the Atlanta store:

I think I could do an entire house in Lilly!  The company launched a bridal collection in 2010 and the company makes prints for sororities and also for various states.  Here is the New York print:

I love this scarf (and the necklace):

Lilly will always be around I hope.  The brand's longevity is a testament to timeless style that can be updated through the years.  But isn't it great that a brand can be worn by multiple generations?

I love the vintage stuff though!

If I were 22 I would be wearing this:

But I will settle for this (which I bought in black last fall) and have worn a lot.

Thanks Lilly for dressing us girls all these years!  Looking forward to many more!
