If there were any doubters at all - well, they are eating their words now. Maximum Security won another Grade 1 race on Saturday, placing him in the perfect spot to claim the Eclipse Award for the top three-year-old male for 2019. He won against the older horses in the Cigar Mile, proving also that that he can run well and win at any distance. Even with his disqualification in the Derby, we all know who the best three-year-old is now. He is now listed as the official winner of three Grade 1 races in 2019:
the Florida Derby, the Haskell Invitational, and now the Cigar Mile.
He's planning to run again in the Pegasus Cup in January at Gulfstream (and he's never lost a race on that track, 4 for 4) and I could easily see him as a prime candidate for the top races for older horses in 2020. He may indeed get his revenge on the racing world.
