Virginia-based Diane Crump is the story behind a new book that was released earlier this year. She was the first woman jockey and the first woman to ride a horse in the Kentucky Derby. Based near Middleburg, she now runs a successful business marketing horses to prospective buyers and I looked at a horse she was marketing a few years back. You can see her site
here. She is a true horse person and is featured in this article in the
New York Times. While I have not read the book, it's going on my list. She is truly an inspiration much like Kathy Kusner did for the show jumping and steeplechasing world.
Diane, along with her daughter, ran a wonderful horse-searching business in the greater Northern VA region — we used them two or three times and spending the day following them from one farm to another riding horses and more horses is a fond memory.
ReplyDeleteThey still run this business in Virginia.
