We were planning a trip to Three Chimneys Farm to see Gun Runner in early April but that has been cancelled. So the next best thing? Go to historic Claiborne Farm's Facebook page and sign up for one of their virtual tours. I'm game! And it's free.
Some horse racing is still going on. The Louisiana Derby is this weekend and next weekend is the Florida Derby. Most of these races are on the Fox Sports Channel or the NBC Sports Channel. But because there is nothing going on in the sports world, NBC has expanded their coverage of racing. So if you are a sports nut, then this might be your only option for live sports. See the details here.
You can also work on your riding while you are marooned at home. Bernie Traurig, a world-renowned rider and trainer, has set up an on-line training site, The Equestrian Coach, which does require a subscription fee. You see can see it here. He has invited other famous trainers to teach via video. Why not learn from the very best? I took a clinic from him years ago. He is very good.
Have you ever wondered about the art of betting on the horses? You can learn for free and even get a little cash to get you started. Twinspires will teach you the ropes and give a little cash to start your operation. (Reader disclosure - I don't usually bet on the horses, so this is not an endorsement in any way).
Next weekend the Dubai Cup takes place and American horse racing will be well-represented. Five horses from the US will compete for a $12M purse and this should be well-televised. I am not sure of post time but given the time difference, it is likely a noon or midday start. Stay tuned for more.
