If you have never seen this movie, then you're in for a treat. If you love The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit, then you'll also adore The Horse With the Flying Tail. This is a true story (a documentary) and it won an Oscar for Documentaries and was produced by Disney. It's the story of Nautical, a horse with humble beginnings that went on to win with rider Hugh Wiley in the most prestigious locales in show jumping. Love the scenes from Aachen (on my bucket list). This was made in 1960. If you have free time, then enjoy! See the movie here.
Just some side notes. The movie was released as a double bill with Swiss Family Robinson and was also shown on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1964. The movie portrays Nautical as being a non-descript stock horse but in fact, he was sired by an American Quarter Horse, Muchacho de Oro out of an Army Remount mare of mostly Thoroughbred breeding. You'll see clips of a very young George Morris, Frank Chapot, Bill Steinkraus and others. It's like taking a walk back in time. Enjoy!
Wow, beautiful movie. I must say the American Quarter Horse is one of the best breeds of horses in speed and jumps. The movie was worth watching.
